Tigers Ifedi Named to Watch List

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – College Football Performance Awards has announced its 2013 CFPA Defensive Awards Watch List, and University of Memphis defensive end Martin Ifedi has earned a spot on the 2013 CFPA Defensive Lineman Trophy Watch List.

“Congratulations to Martin Ifedi on earning a spot on the 2013 CFPA Defensive Awards Watch List,” said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. Under head coach Justin Fuente, Ifedi will be a top player to watch in 2013.”

Ifedi, a junior from Houston, led Memphis with 11 tackles for lost yardage (51 yards) and 7.5 quarterback sacks while starting 10 of 12 games played during the 2012 season. He finished the year with 46 tackles – 13 solo stops and 33 assists – had four quarterback hurries and forced two fumbles during the year.

Following his sophomore season, Ifedi was selected to the 2012 All-Conference USA Second Team by the league’s coaches. Heading into the 2013 season, Ifedi has also been tabbed a second-team, preseason all-American Athletic Conference selection by both Athlon Sports’ College Football and Phil Steele’s College Football Preview.

Academically, Ifedi earned Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll accolades each of the past three years.

Memphis opens the 2013 season Sept. 7 when the Tigers play host to Duke.
