(Jackson, Tenn.) A bullet ricocheted off a door frame and hit a 1-year-old boy in the head Monday night.

The infant was airlifted to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital. As of Tuesday afternoon, he was in critical but stable condition.

Antonio (Tony) Byrd is wanted in connection with the shooting. Tony is a 24-year-old black male, about 6’6” and 200 lbs.

His brother, Justin ONeal Byrd, was taken into custody Tuesday. He has not been formally charged, but is being held for investigation and on an active parole violation warrant

The brothers were reportedly involved in a confrontation that night with residents of building 16 at 550 Old Hickory Boulevard.

The Byrds were leaving in a red Fiat when a shot was fired from the car. That bullet hit the child, who was in his mother’s arms as she stood in the open door of the building.

Jackson police say they don’t know if the mother was involved in the confrontation.

The Fiat, which one of the brothers had borrowed, was found abandoned on West Park Place Tuesday morning.
