(Memphis) Some strangers jumped into action after a woman had her purse snatched from inside a laundromat.

It happened Wednesday at the Maytag Laundry in the 300 block of North Cleveland.

While the laundry was spinning, police say 18-year-old Andrew Richardson was casing the place and left with a woman's purse.

Bertha Roberson, who was also doing laundry, watched it happen.

"She was standing there and he came and pushed her and snatched her bag and ran," said Roberson.

Roberson says that she ran without thinking after Richardson and says the victim wasn't far behind.

"We were hollering and screaming," said Roberson.

Roberson says Richardson made it as far as the AutoZone next door when he was stopped by a customer who was working on a car outside the store.

"He was able to catch the suspect and hold him until officers got here," said Roberson.

Richardson was charged with robbery.

Roberson is hoping he learned his lesson and says she's glad she got involved.

"If it was mine, I would have done the same thing. I would have been behind him -- which I was," said Roberson.

Because witnesses were able to stop the suspect, the victim was able to get back all of her belongings.
