(Walnut Ridge,AR) - A community is mourning after Sidney Randall's body is found in a river. The teen from Walnut Ridge was found Saturday by a fisherman in a river near Old Davidson State Park in Lawrence County.
Her classmates heard the news Monday morning, and were overcome with grief, many becoming physically ill.
"Everybody was freaking out it was sad even the teachers were sad," Sidney Randall's long time friend Sierra Corona said.
After two months of wondering what happened he the small community is gaining some sense of closure.
"I was hoping it wouldn't come to this," Taneil Wells said.
The fourteen-year-old was found dead in a river about a mile and a half south of the boat ramp at Old Davidson State Park.
A spot that was searched several times in the past.
"We ran sonar in the river several times. We had boats on the river," Walnut Ridge Police Chief Ricky Thatcher said.
Investigators believe Randall was killed by her stepfather. He was found dead the day after she disappeared with an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound.
Police say that's just a theory until autopsy results come back.
"I remember one day we were baking cookies and he (Sidney's step-father) threw a cookie and she threw one back. There were just no signs ever," Corona said.
So the big question still remains, why did this happen?
"I'd love to put the whole puzzle together from the time it started to the time it ended, but I don't know if we'll ever be able to," Chief Ricky Thatcher said.
For now friends remember the good times they shared with Sidney.
"She'd be the one to brighten everyone's day. Behind someone's back making faces, photo bombing," Corona remembered.
Friends will remember Sidney at a memorial service at the high school gymnasium on Saturday at 2 p.m.
