(Tampa, FL) Two parents accused of kidnapping their children and taking them to Cuba are back in the United States and in jail.

Joshua and Sharyn Hakken were flown back to the U.S. overnight. Last week, investigators said the two took 2-year-old Chase and 4-year-old Cole from their maternal grandparents’ home in Florida and fled.

Police said they stole a boat and took the boys to Cuba.

There was concern over whether the children would be returned because there is no extradition treaty between the U.S. and Cuba, but investigators said Cuba was cooperative in getting the family back safely.

The parents were booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. They face a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and state charges of kidnapping and interference with child custody.

The two boys received medical exams and are said to be okay.
