(Southaven, MS) Lawmakers in Southaven have approved a $75 increase for residential water service connections in a move to ensure the city recovers it’s money if customers do not pay their bills.

The Board of Aldermen approved a resolution during its Tuesday board meeting raising residential deposit fees from $50 to $125 and $200 commercial customers.

Officials also announced customers could pay their bills online at the city’s website but a extra fee would be added to payments because the state of Mississippi does not allow the city to pay it.

The utility policy changes take effect February 18.
