(Memphis) – A woman is found dead in her Hickory Hill apartment. Memphis Police say she was murdered. Family members believe they have a pretty good idea of how their loved one ended up dead.

Witnesses say they heard a single gunshot around 2:00 Wednesday morning. It wasn't until eight hours later that 50-year-old Cheryl Jones was found dead in her Hickory Point Apartment, apparently shot in the head.

Family members say that Jones made some kind of call for help to her nephew just after 1:00am. He didn't pick up, but called her back a short time later. They say a man answered then, but didn't say much.

At the crime scene, family and friends were wondering where Jones' boyfriend is, who they say was with her last night.

“He called [Jones’] mom and told her to get over here because she didn't have a pulse, but all of a sudden when they get here, he's not here and he's nowhere to be found,” said Tiffany Heffner, Jones’ friend.

Jones' father described her as kind and caring and says she will be greatly missed. He hopes to get justice for his daughter.

Police are not saying whether or not there are any suspects in this case.
