(Memphis) The Memphis City School Board has unanimously approved a severance package for outgoing Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash.

Part of the deal is he will serve in an advisory role with the combined Memphis City and Shelby County School Board until this July.

Cash will be paid through the end of his contract, which ends in July. He will also receive $17,000 in 'moving and legal expenses.'

It's not clear why Cash is paid the $17,000 which was not stipulated by his contract.

Cash said quote, "We are at a critical juncture in this historic and very important merger. They are so important that we need one voice, one leader."
