A new survey says at least one third of African-American women don’t exercise because of their hair style.

Women in the study say they spend up to $40 a week on their hair.

They say exercise will cause more sweating and lead to frequent hair washings.

That can ruin the style and create problems like itchy scalp and dandruff.

Many African-American women say they avoid exercise for that reason.

The study was published in the Archives of Dermatology.
