(Memphis) A Raleigh man is locked up on half a million dollars bond, accused of brutally raping a woman in his neighborhood.

Forty-eight year-old Lynn Crump has been charged with aggravated rape in the attack police say happened earlier this week on Hobson.

Police say Crump tied up a 60-year-old woman, raped and beat her, and held her prisoner inside her home for several hours.

"Oh my God, right here in the neighborhood? It's so close. Wow," said Ashley Taylor.

Ashley Taylor was shocked to learn a man she has known for years, and lives just a few doors away was arrested for the crime.

A rape survivor herself, she says her thoughts are with the woman he isĀ  accused of attacking, "I'm just overwhelmed. I don't know what to say."

Court records show Crump has a lengthy criminal background.

In 2009, he had an order of protection filed against him, and in 2011, he was found guilty of assault and vandalism.

He was also charged twice with theft.

Neighbors are glad he was arrested, but say it has shaken their sense of security.

"It could have been anybody. It doesn't make any sense, and we live so close to these people," said Cassandra Bray.

Crump made his first court appearance Friday.

So far, he has only been charged with aggravated rape. For more news updates from the field follow me on twitter.
