(Memphis) The faculty senate at the University of Memphis overwhelmingly backed benefits for same-sex partners of faculty according to the Daily Helmsman.

Their recommendation will go to the Tennessee Board of Regents, which would have to approve the policy change.

The faculty senate also voted unanimously that a lack of same-sex partnership benefits limits the university’s ability to recruit the best professors.

The faculty policy committee is expected to draft a resolution of what those benefits will include by mid-February.
