(Syracuse, NY) Two brothers in New York are accused of scamming a convenience store customer out of a $5 million lottery ticket.

Police say Andy and Nayel Ashkar then tried to cash in the winning ticket for themselves six years later.

The real winner checked the ticket at the family store where the brothers worked.

He was told he won $5 thousand dollars and they paid him off.

The brothers waited until the day before the lottery ticket would expire to cash it in.

Lottery officials became suspicious and contacted police.

The two are facing grand larceny charges.

Lottery officials have found the real winner and hope to pay him the $5 million prize if the brothers are convicted.
