(Memphis)  Memphis Police have arrested a Tipton County man in connection with a deadly accident that took the life of a baby.

Police say 24-year-old Atu Campbell of Drummonds was driving down Baskin St. in Frayser, when he lost control of his car, hit a curb and crashed into a tree.

There was a one-year-old child in the vehicle with Campbell.

The infant was in a car seat but it wasn’t secured.

Mary Rogers saw the accident, “The baby was face down on the floor in the backseat and it was out of the car seat.”

The child later died at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Campbell is now facing several charges including reckless driving and reckless homicide.

Rogers says an off-duty paramedic tried to help the child before emergency crews arrived, “It’s just a terrible thing to happen to the baby then the driver has to live with is the rest of his life.”

Campbell is being held on $25,000 bond and will appear in court Friday morning.
