(Atlanta, GA) People who may have been exposed to steroid injections contaminated with fungal meningitis should be monitored for at least six weeks.

That comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Six weeks from the last steroid injection is when a patient is at the greatest risk.

During that time, doctors are advised to do weekly lumbar punctures to check for early signs of infection.

24 deaths are blamed on fungal meningitis so far.
