Police Chief Shooting Suspect Charged

(Crockett County, TN) A Dyersburg man has been charged with shooting a Friendship, TN police chief.

We’re told Friendship Police Chief Bill Garrett was off-duty at the time and was shopping at Dollar General when Craig Michael Barbee, 39, came in and tried to rob the store. There was a short altercation during which Garrett was shot.

Garrett was airlifted to The Med in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to serious.

Barbee was taken into custody in Halls, TN just before 3:00a.m Saturday morning. He is being held in the Crockett County Jail on an attempted 1st degree charge.
