(Memphis) A wife is praying her husband comes home. Michael Holland is from Covington and has been missing since Wednesday. A search crew is out combing roads in three counties.

His wife, Rebecca, believes if he’s going to come back alive, he needs to be found soon.

Search crews are marking the roads they’ve covered to find Rebecca’s husband.

“I would love to be out searching but I can’t handle it emotionally,” said Rebecca.

Michael Holland’s mother is also trying to stay strong.

“We love him more than anything and we need him home,” said Renae Holland.

The family believes the 32-year-old went for a ride on one of his motorcycles.

“He preferred especially long flat stretches where you can see for a long while,” said Rebecca.

Something happened to him because he never made it to work Wednesday night.

“The last message I received from him was at 10:15 a.m.,” said Rebecca.

It’s also around the last time a cell tower tracked his signal.

It means Michael could be somewhere near Covington, or anywhere.

“He has been known to go Missouri, Kentucky and Reelfoot Lake all in the same day,” said Rebecca.

Rebecca wants people to keep an eye on the side of roads, especially near the Mississippi River. Look for his helmet. It’s bright gold. Rebecca’s hoping it saved his life.

“Is he miserable? Is he cold? Is he ok?” Rebecca wonders.

She hopes the man she’s loved for 12 years will come home.

“The good Lord is going to bring him home,” said his mother. “He’s is out there. The Lord won’t give me more than I can handle and I can’t handle losing my baby.”

If you would like to help search for Michael Holland, contact the Charleston Fire Department or just head out there. That’s the staging area for the search. If you spot him, contact Tipton County Dispatch at 475-4300.

(Memphis) The excitement of the Memphis Grizzlies and the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference finals, it’s now spilling over from the hardwood to city hall.

The mayors of the two cities where the teams call home are verbally going one-on-one over who will win.

At point guard for Memphis and standing at five foot 9, A C Wharton.

“A spur, if you’re riding a donkey or some animal that starts with a J and ends with an A, a spur might make that animal get on, but I’ve never seen anybody who takes a little old spur and taking on a grizzly and do anything,” Wharton said.

At point guard for San Antonio and standing at five foot 10, Julian Castro.

“We are in it to win it. We had a scare the other night. The Grizzlies are a great team, but I’m confident we’ll pull it out,” Castro said.

No, this isn’t s Duncan or Conley vs Parker. This is NBA trash talking mayoral style.

“I’ve never seen anybody say a grizzly was after me and, by George, I took out my spur and that sucker got out-of-the-way. You can tell them it’ll take more of a spur, if they come in here,” Wharton said.

“The series goes back to Memphis, but we are keeping our fingers crossed that the Spurs will get the win over there and if not come back home and get it,” Castro said.

For the mayors, the Grizzlies-Spurs series is leading to another debate and wager. This one is over which town has the best barbeque.

“The last words for the mayor of Memphis, Mayor Wharton, I’m coming for barbeque over there,” Castro said.

“My brother I dare not duel with an unarmed man. They have no idea what they’re talking about. God have mercy on them. When they got real barbeque, they’ll shut up. They haven’t had the real thing yet,” Wharton said.

It’s a friendly war of words echoing through two proud cities, but will ultimately be decided on the court.

(Memphis) The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services is now reporting 47 children died during the first quarter of 2013, whose death is being investigated due to abuse or neglect.

The latest figures are for children who are not in state custody.

According to the report, DCS had no prior contact with nearly half of the 47 who died.

In more than 30% of the cases, DCS has confirmed abuse or neglect.

The department recently changed the way it reports fatalities.

The agency now only reports non-custodial deaths when abuse or neglect is suspected.

WREG and other media outlets sued DCS for child death records when the agency refused to release them under the state open records act.

This latest information was released as part of a weekly newsletter from DCS Commissioner Jim Henry, called Open Line.

(Memphis) Memphis Mayor A C Wharton is hoping to reduce gunshot wound victims by introducing a hospital based violence intervention program.

“Many time young folks, their concern is how are they going to get even,” said Mayor Wharton about some young gunshot wound victims that come into The MED Trauma Center.

“All that does is increase the number of admissions to the trauma center,” said Doctor Martin Croce who is the Director of the Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center at The MED.

Croce said there are more than 4000 trauma admissions each year and gunshot victims account for 10%.

The violence intervention program will launch in August with an intervention liaison.

The liaison will work with the victim, family and friends and connect them to community resources like counseling, mediation, GED classes and conflict resolution.

“If you’re able to just break it for a moment and say wait, wait, wait, wait. We’ve had enough of this,” said Mayor Wharton about the conversations that should be had with patients.

Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said that retaliation is something his officers work to combat daily,.

“The only thing they can think about when they are here is ‘let me get back on the streets so I can retaliate against the person that is responsible for me being here,’” said Armstrong. “At the end of the day the cycle perpetuates itself. There’s no end to this.”

The hope is not only to prevent injury and death but also to save money.

The MED has spent around $81 million in the past 3 years treating uninsured gunshot victims.

The hope is to reduce that number and the intervention liaison will pay for itself.

Right now, the program is sponsored through the Mayor’s Innovation Delivery Team through a Bloomberg Philanthropies grant.

(Memphis) – The files at the Memphis Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division go into detail about the investigation of Officers Marc Henderson and Parker Culver and the interview that ultimately led to them losing their badges.

It started at the Ridgeway Police Precinct roll-call last year.

Supervisor Lt. T. Burford said Officer Parker Culver was complaining about a 4-point-6 percent pay cut city workers agreed to, but thought would be re-instated and he mentioned striking.

According to Burford, Culver remarked, ” If officers block the equipment room, no one could work.”

An investigation started and other cops told how Officer Marc Henderson talked about making the job harder for fellow officers.
According to one officer, Henderson said “This is how we gonna do it. They are gonna issue us a squad car and a shotgun. We are gonna take it to the Mississippi and we are not gonna bring it back.”

Another officer even said she heard Culver remark “officers who wanted to work, they will be shot.”

In their interviews, both Culver and Henderson denied discussing a strike, making any threats or taking over the equipment room at their precinct.
Henderson admitted buying guns and ammo, but only as a hobby. He said a You Tube Video he posted about the government was just expressing his first amendment rights.
The Police Department didn’t buy their story.

“We took it seriously. We felt that was not conduct conducive to a healthy work environment,” said Police Director Toney Armstrong.

The President of the Police Union, Mike Williams, claims what wasn’t healthy was a vendetta the officers’ direct supervisor, Lt. H Ross, had against them.

She told her bosses she was concerned the men could carry out their threats.
Williams questions her motives.

“She also felt like they were responsible for a suspension she got. They don’t take any of that into consideration.” said Williams.

Director Armstrong hopes other officers can learn something from this.

“More than anything, other officers will choose their words carefully and act responsibly,” said Armstrong.

The fired officers have 10 days from their firing to request a hearing before the Civil Service Board or to seek arbitration.

(Memphis) Ulysses Hines is accused of burning a woman’s house down. It belonged to a South Memphis woman who says she was doing him a favor and letting him stay there.

The house on Gleason Avenue is a complete loss and the victims are having to start over from scratch.

The fire department estimates the damage to the house at $35,000. Police say it was caused by a 64-year-old house guest who outstayed his welcome.

“We took him in when he didn`t have nothing,” said Carmela Heath.

As the saying goes “no good deed goes unpunished”.

“It shocked me,” said Heath. “It shocked me.”

Carmela Heath the man she let stay at her house burned the place down, “I have nothing!”

Heath says she gave Hines a place to stay for two weeks but when he started stealing from neighbors, she told him Tuesday he had to go.

“She went to take her son to school and he got mad and set the house on fire,” said Neighbor Tre Williams.

Carmela’s roommate was still asleep inside the home.

“There was smoke and I was coughing and I just ran out the house,” said Pamela Young.

Now Pamela, Carmela and her 5-year-old son have nowhere to go and only the clothes on their backs.

“I need everything,” said Heath. “I don`t have anything.”

But still, Carmela can find some satisfaction knowing the man who did this is now in jail.

“He’s jail now?” she asked Reporter Sabrina Hall. “He’s in jail! Good deal! Good job! Good job!”

Hines’ bond is set at $500,000.

If you would like to help Pamela, Carmela, or her 5-year-old son with clothes or housing, call 901-417-3803.

That is the same steroid linked to a fungal meningitis outbreak but those doses were made in Massachusetts

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued an alert about methylprednisolone acetate doses made at a lab in Newbern, TN.

That is the same steroid linked to a fungal meningitis outbreak but those doses were made in Massachusetts.

The FDA says seven adverse ‘events’ have been associated with injections of the steroid, which is commonly used as a pain treatment.

Main Street Family Pharmacy is the Newbern where the doses were made.

The Tennessee Department of Health issued this statement:

State and federal health organizations are conducting a cooperative investigation into reports of adverse events among patients in Illinois and North Carolina who received injections of methylprednisolone acetate (MPA) after Dec. 6, 2012, produced by Main Street Family Pharmacy, LLC, in Newbern, Tenn.

The organizations involved in the investigation include the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Illinois Department of Health, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the Tennessee Department of Health. Because the investigation is in an early stage, staff members with all agencies are working now to gather and process information and to communicate with affected facilities and patients.

The reports of adverse events are all from patients who received preservative-free methylprednisolone acetate (80 mg/mL) by injection. To date, the FDA has received seven reports of illness. Clinical information about these patients is pending. To date, no reports of meningitis or other life-threatening infections have been reported. MPA is typically used for reducing inflammation.

The first priority is to ensure all products from this pharmacy are no longer in use. In addition, patients who potentially received an injection of MPA compounded by the pharmacy, into a sterile space (e.g., spine, joint, eye), should be contacted. These patients and others who may have had other types of injections should be informed the MPA medication they received might have been contaminated and asked whether they are experiencing any symptoms that could indicate infection.

Health officials believe, in reviewing preliminary information about when the material could have been appropriately used, there is not an ongoing risk to those now needing treatments. Out of an abundance of caution, the organizations have implemented or are implementing actions to protect the general public. These include:

• A thorough examination of records from the pharmacy to determine when and where MPA products were shipped. It is known these products were distributed to facilities in 13 states including: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Health departments and facilities in these states are being notified so they can participate in response efforts.

• A review of receiving facilities’ records to learn which of their patients may have been administered the medication in question. Health officials will work closely with these facilities to investigate possible adverse events among those patients who received the suspect medication and to assist with outreach efforts to communicate with other patients. It is too early to know how many additional patients, if any, may be at risk.

• Additional laboratory work to determine the cause or causes of these adverse events.

• An FDA/TDH on-site inspection of the facility, which began May 22. The pharmacy staff and management have been cooperative. The pharmacy has agreed to stop sterile compounding pending resolution of the current investigation.

• Main Street Pharmacy, LLC, has voluntarily initiated a recall of all sterile products, including MPA, in cooperation with state and federal authorities. Main Street Family Pharmacy, LLC, was licensed by the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy in 1985. It is currently on probation as a result of a recent inspection.

s that could indicate infection.

(Memphis) Seven Memphis motels are closed for promoting prostitution by renting rooms by the hour.

Since Wednesday, the Memphis Police Organized Crime Unit has been shutting down hotels.

The MPD OCU investigation identified the following motels:

Memphis Inn, 4879 American Way; Owner: DEV Enterprises, Tarun Patel

Southeast Motel 3466 Lamar Avenue; Owner: Sima and Amar Inc., Arvind and Urmila Bahkta

Bellevue Inn 1250 South Bellevue; Owner: Parvien Patel

Rainbow Inn 640 Breedlove; Owner: Parvien and Pramudhbhai Patel

Airways Inn Motel 2375 Airways; Owner: Manher Patel

Deluxe Inn Motel 3733 Jackson; Owner: Swaminarayan Inc., Dilip Patel

Summer Motel 3025 Summer; Owner: Jayex, Inc., Manendraku Bhakta, Hansaben Bhakta

Police Director Toney Armstrong says undercover officers recorded 67 times they went into the motels and rented rooms by the hour, which is against the law.

Officers say they sometimes paid as little as $20 for a room.

The director talked about all the other problems that were also associated with these motels, “From March 2012 to May of 2013 uniform patrol officers have responded to the above mentioned hotels a total of 350 times for crimes ranging from forcible rape, aggravated assault, robbery, theft, narcotic violations, prostitution and criminal trespassing.”

Some of these motels have been deemed a public nuisance before.

News Channel 3 asked District Attorney Amy Weirich about that.

She said the various owners are going to reopen they’re going to have to submit a plan to assure not only her but the community they were not going to be a breeding ground for crime.

The owners will be in Environmental Court Tuesday to answer to these allegations.

In a dramatic shift from its previous policy, The Boy Scouts of America voted Thursday to lift the ban on openly gay scouts.

1400 Boy Scout leaders voted by secret ballot, in the end, 61% of the delegates supported lifting the ban.

The change goes into effect January 1st.

The ban on gay adult leaders remains in place.

Skip Ledbetter was a Scout for many years, reaching the highest rank of “Eagle Scout”.

In fact, he was named the top Scout in Mississippi and number three in the whole country.

But all that time he had to keep quiet, about being gay.

(Memphis) Club 152, located on Beale Street, has been given the go ahead to reopen by environmental court judge, Larry Potter.

The club was closed May 16.

The District Attorney says there have been numerous instances of illegal drug sales and violence.

Investigators say some drug deals went down in-front of managers.

Police responded to 130 calls at the club between January and April.

Since closure, owners have done drug testing, background checks and held employee meetings.

They told the judge they have also done building repairs and done facility upgrades since the club was shut down.

Judge Potter commended the attorneys involved in the case for resolving the issue.
