MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A woman's body was found in a home near an elementary school Wednesday morning.
Police said Sherlain Rowe, 69, was physically assaulted. She was found dead in the hallway of her home in the 5300 block of Millbranch Road just before 8 a.m. Wednesday after police said her sister stopped by to check on her.
Her death is being called a homicide.
"Sweet, happy, well-mannered, very respectful, she's outgoing, she's loved by many. And when I say many, I mean many, so you can imagine how we feel today to hear this."
She's someone family members describe as a good person, who would do anything for anyone.
"If she had her last dollar, she would give it to you. That's just how sweet she is. She was just the joy of the family," her brother-in-law Darrell Richardson said.
It had been days since anyone in the big, close-knit family had heard from her, so it's still unclear exactly when she was killed.
"It sounds like a heartless person. Sounds like a coward, but a heartless person to want to do something like this."
Her cousin said he stopped by yesterday to fix a water issue she was having, but the door was locked and his calls went ignored.
"Whoever you are, if you have a heart, come forward and say, 'I did this,' or whatever. But give the family some closure to this crisis that they're going through now."
