HORN LAKE, Miss. -- WREG is learning more about the Horn Lake mother shot outside her home Monday night.

Her sons identified her as Christalee Washington.

Family said she is recovering at the hospital and is in critical condition.

Last check with police they’re still searching for the shooter.

On Tuesday, shattered glass and a bullet hole are the reminders of what happened at this Horn Lake home off Haynes Drive.

“I hate that it had to be her,” said son Jerry Bowens.

WREG was there shortly after the mother of five was shot. Bowens walked us through what he says happened.

Bowens said several men he didn’t know showed up to his house trying to fight him and his brother. His father came out telling them to leave.

“The dude, he had a jacket on but he like pulled it up so my dad could see the gun and so when he did that my dad hit him and he dropped the gun and was like, ‘aight say no more!’ three seconds later he was like watch out Pete! Next thing I know about eight shots went off and it scraped the pole. It was supposed to hit me but it hit my mom in the face,” he said.

Bowens says this wasn’t the first time he’s been targeted.

“I think it’s the same person that’s shot at me before,” he said.

The circumstances surrounding that case are unclear but he wants those who pulled the trigger Monday night to be held accountable.

Horn Lake Police believe the shooting may have been in retaliation from a fight earlier in the day. Anyone with information should contact the Horn Lake Police Department at (662) 393-6174.
