The fire happened at a home on Eldridge Street around 2 a.m. Monday.

According to Humboldt Fire, a mother and two daughters were outside the home when firefighters arrived, and the mother told them her 7-year-old was still inside.

The fire was blazing by that point, and firefighters were able to get the boy out, but he died at the hospital.

The mother suffered cuts on her arms from trying to break windows to reach her son.

The home was destroyed, and the heat was so strong it damaged a car several feet from the home.

Fire officials are trying to figure out what started the fire. The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office is also investigating.
