FAYETTE COUNTY, Tenn.  -- Investigators worked for hours searching for evidence after remains were discovered just off of Highway 64 in Fayette County.

Investigators told WREG the remains were found just 30 feet from the road by a man doing electrical work in the area.

Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told WREG's Jessica Gertler the remains appear to have been there for quite some time.

The discovery creates a lot of concern for two families who reported their family members missing last summer.

WREG reported Ellis Vogt and an unknown woman both disappeared in early August.

The family told authorities the woman had been in the home taking care of Vogt for about two weeks before they vanished.

Authorities said the medical examiner is working to find out if the remains are human. If they are, the state lab will then test DNA.

No word how long that could take.
