HERNANDO, Miss. -- The woman rushed to the hospital after her husband heroically saved her from their burning home has died.

Sharon Jones passed away Monday evening, WREG has confirmed.

"He had to walk through the heart of the flames. He rescued himself then he went back in and rescued her," said Jamie Shephard, the couple's daughter.

For 37 years Steve and Sharon Jones shared a love that withstood the test of time.

On Sunday morning, Steve gave of himself and rushed back into the fiery home the two built together to save his sleeping wife.

Exactly 24 hours after flames overtook their home, Steve took his last breath surrounded by his three daughters.

"He`s a hero. He died a hero."

A testament of just how far true love is willing to go.
