MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis organization partnered with the Grizzlies to make sure Mid-South families have a food on the table for Christmas.

The entire team, along with their coaches, the Lady Bears and dozens of volunteers, spent Saturday morning packing food boxes at the Cook Convention Center.

It was part of an annual event called Soulfull Memphis Operation Christmas Basket.

Coach David Fizdale told WREG helping the people of the Mid-South is something the team is very passionate about.

“It’s bigger than basketball for us. Our city and our people are very important, and with our platform, we need to serve as much as possible. There’s a lot of people in need during this time, and we just want to be a part of the community where we’re giving back.”

The players, coaches and volunteers put the baskets together and loaded them into cars.

In all, 5,000 Mid-South families got a basket.
