MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It will be a very merry Christmas in Whitehaven this year.

Wal-Mart confirmed Steve and Samantha Bryson donated $30,276 so layaway merchandise could be paid at the store on Elvis Presley Boulevard.

The store confirmed that the Brysons asked specifically about the layaway items that were related to Christmas and then sent a check for that amount.

Memphians who had put things on layaway will now have less to worry about when it comes to holiday gift-giving.

Steve is originally from Memphis, and because of that, he and his wife spent some time looking for an area here that would be benefited by their donation.

“When customers quietly pay off others’ layaway items, we’re reminded how good people can be,” a Wal-Mart spokeswoman said. “The joy that comes from these transactions extends well beyond dollars and cents. We’re honored to be a small part of these random acts of kindness.”
