COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — Imagine going on a shopping spree and buying whatever you want with a gift card from the Memphis Grizzles, while they shop with you. Well, that’s exactly what happen to 200 kids today at a Collierville Wal-Mart.

It’s the season of giving, and the Memphis Grizzles are doing just that with their annual shopping spree for 200 children from surrounding Boys & Girls Clubs.

“It’s really great for them to be able to come out even though they had the game last night against the Warriors, it was a good win and I thank them for doing this for us,” said Shyhiem Harris.

Shyheim Harris, along with all the other kids, received a $100 gift card to shop for whatever they want. They also got to meet Santa Claus, eat a few cookies and of course take pictures and shop alongside the Grizz players.

“It’s always fun because we come in here either after a game or the day before the game and the kids they always know what’s going to happen, and they tell us what we should’ve done right in the game but most importantly we have fun shopping,” said Grizzlies player Tony Allen.

Players Tony Allen, Zack Randolph and JaMychal Green all took part in the action. Randolph said he noticed several kids playing Santa Claus themselves.

“Every year it’s kids buying stuff for their little brother, or their mom or father so it’s great it shows where their heart is,” said Randolph.

Mandy Powell tells WREG a lot of these families have to choose between putting food on the table or buying Christmas presents, but thanks to the Grizz, Christmas came early.

“It’s really, really special for our kids that they get to shop with their heroes, I mean everyone looks up to the Memphis Grizzles,” said Powell.

This was the sixth annual Season of Giving shopping spree with the Memphis Grizzles.
