MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A girl was raped and thrown in a ditch Monday morning, police said, and the accused attacker is in custody.

The girl's mother told our Luke Jones her 11-year-old daughter was hit by a vehicle and then put into an SUV and raped.

She said her daughter was then left in a ditch near Delta and Manson.

"It was terrifying. All I could think of was my baby," the mother told WREG's Bridget Chapman.

The girl was walking to Geeter Middle School.

Police confirmed the horrific crime and announced later Monday evening they found the suspect and took him into custody.

Police have not yet identified him, as official charges are pending.
