Celebration Week to honor 4 local state championship teams

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The City of Memphis has announced details about an upcoming event that will honor several high school football teams from the area.

In addition to proclaiming this week Memphis Championship Celebration Week, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland announced the city, in partnership with Shelby County Schools and the Memphis Sports Council, will be hosting an event to celebrate the young athletes.

Memphis Championship Celebration Day will be this Saturday, December 10. The event will honor East, Lausanne, Trezevant and Whitehaven High Schools who all won their respective football championships over the past weekend.

A parade will will start at the Shelby County School offices around 10 a.m. Shortly after the parade, another event is scheduled to begin around 10:45 a.m. at Tiger Lane.

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland tweeted about the event Monday, saying while there are more details to be worked out, he and school officials wanted to make sure everyone had the event on their calendars as soon as possible.
