Woman found dead behind abandoned home in South Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A woman was found dead behind an abandoned home in South Memphis Thursday afternoon.

Police said a couple of ladies looking at the house next door on Carlton went into the backyard to check it out. That's when they saw the body and called 911.

Police got to the scene around 2:30 p.m.

"Too much going on. Too many lives being taken away for no reason at all," said neighbor Brandon Jackson.

He and other neighbors were upset. Some panicked.

"We got here and saw news and police cars blocking the street. I'm like okay there is something going on," said Anthony Hodges who was dropping his son off.

Many came home from work to the large crime scene filled with forensics and homicide investigators frantically trying to figure out what happened.

Right now, police don't know who the woman was. They said there's not witnesses and no suspects.

"So much violence going on today. I don't know if we are in competition with Chicago or what, but we got to pull this thing together," said Jackson.

Jackson had his little girls in the car when he pulled up to the crime scene. He knows they'll ask questions.

"Not the first time, and I'm pretty sure it might not be the last," said Jackson.

The body was taken to the medical examiner's office.

It's unclear if foul played was involved.
