Two suspects at large following Mendenhall shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The sidewalk had to be freshly washed to get the blood stains out of the doorway of the Elvis Food Mart off Mendenhall.

There was panic through the neighborhood after people heard 4 shots and then police swarmed the market.

"I was just making sure the lady in the store didn’t get shot. Everyone in neighborhood knows her. That’s Teetee."

Teetee was actually just fine. She told WREG's Wayne Carter the shooting didn’t even happen here.

"He ask me to call police and I call police for him," she said referring to the shooting victim. "He don’t say nothing except 'Someone shot me in the apartment.'"

The man lived in the apartment complex right across the street.

Police said two men were seen running away from the victim's apartment moments after the shots rang out. Officers blocked off Mendenhall, shutting it down in both directions while they gathered evidence and neighbors tried to make sense of it all.

"The people need to be getting jobs and needs to be working instead of killing people."

They won’t accept it in their quiet neighborhood. They said it's the kind of place where the woman at the minimart may be behind glass, but they all know Miss Teetee and love her.

They're also hoping the customer who was shot pulls through.

"Yeah man this is crazy. This never happens in this neighborhood. We don’t know what is going on."
