Panola County marine recovering after being shot in the head

BATESVILLE, Miss.-- A Panola County father and Marine is recovering after he was shot in the head. Last check with law enforcement the suspect is still wanted.

The Panola County Sheriff said Lyndon Mosley was shot while driving near the Panola County line Tuesday afternoon but Wednesday night he is at the Regional One Medical Center.

WREG talked to family members who are by Mosley's bedside.

They said he is currently on leave for what was supposed to be a happy time, the birth of his daughter.

Law enforcement said he was shot in the head at one point a bullet was lodged in his eye.

Mosley's family was too distraught to go on camera but said he is on leave for the birth of his second daughter. His oldest is just one-year-old. Mosley's father said he's been in the Marines for five years and is currently stationed in North Carolina.

According to the Panola County Sheriff, he was shot while driving on Highway 6, near the Panola and Lafayette County line. Two other people along with a baby were in the vehicle at the time.

Mosley was the only one hit.

While his family remains by his side, shocked and hurt, they're hoping law enforcement can soon give them answers.

Last check with the Sheriff's Office, multiple agencies are working together to follow up on leads to a suspect. WREG is also working to find out what a possible motive could be. As we get more information we will pass it along.
