MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A deputy shot and killed a dog who bit the deputy’s ankle, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy was serving papers in the 3100 block of Kenneth Street when the dog attacked, SCSO said.

After the dog bit the deputy’s ankle, the dog tried to bite a second time.

That’s when SCSO said the deputy shot the dog, who died from the wound.

SCSO said the deputy will not be put on administration leave and the homeowners won’t be charged because the dog acted on its own.
