Man shot outside South Memphis convenience store

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A Memphis man is recovering after he was shot outside a South Memphis convenience store overnight.

The shooting happened just after midnight Monday morning at the McLemore Express Mart on East McLemore Ave. near Bellevue Blvd.

Store cameras were rolling as a man walked into the store to buy something. His brother stayed in the car.

Moments later a man comes out of the shadows and approaches the vehicle.

When the man comes outside and starts to get into the car, the suspect pulls out a gun and opens fire.

Police said the driver was shot in the leg and drove a few blocks away to Bellevue Blvd. and Walker Ave. to get help.

The victim reportedly told police the suspect asked if he was the one who shot his brother before he started shooting.

The victim was taken to the Regional Medical Center but is expected to survive.

So far, police haven't released a description of any suspects.
