Man shot and killed at Whitehaven apartment complex

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police cars and crime scene tape surround the apartments at Whitehaven View.

When police arrived there, it was already too late. They found a man lying dead in the courtyard.

Family quickly gathered, identifying the man shot as 33-year-old Sam Jonathan Rolack. His father, Wallace Williams, was in grief.

"He was a nice guy. He would give you the shirt off his back. He was real nice. A sweet guy," said Williams.

Family tell us Rolack didn't live in the apartments but had friends who did.

Police spent the evening combing the crime scene for clues.

They say the most difficult part right now is getting witnesses to come forward, somebody who saw something and is willing to come forward and tell it.

The white Chevy Impala Rolack was believed to have been driving was still running when police arrived. It was eventually towed from the scene.

Shocked family and friends stood by watching and waiting, wondering when the killing is going to stop.

"It's just a sad situation. We got to stop these killings, man. It's just out of hand," said Williams.

Still no word on what led to this latest homicide and who is behind it, but for another grieving family, tragedy has become all too real.

"I never thought my son would be the next victim for this year, but I guess that's just the way it is, you know," said Williams.
