CENTRAL, La. — From heartbreak to lucky break — a Louisiana man whose home was damaged by the floods in August just won a $1 million Powerball prize.

James Lapeze, 72, had a winning ticket for the Oct. 1 drawing and recently claimed his prize, CBS affiliate WAFB reported.

He said he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the numbers; he matched five of six.

“I checked my numbers over and over again,” Lapeze told the station. “I even had my wife check them because I really couldn’t believe that I won!”

Lapeze took home $700,000 after taxes. He said he will use it to pay off his home and have a nice retirement.
