ALABAMA — A third grader from Alabama is being honored after growing a 27.3 pound head of cabbage that’s almost as big as he is.

According to reports, Simon Roberts grew the plant as part of the national Bonnie Plants Cabbage Program.

Students across the nation grew their own plants then submitted them. In Alabama alone there were more than 37,000 entrants.

“Simon grew a nearly flawless 27-pound cabbage,” posted the Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, John McMillan. “He will be honored in coming weeks at an assembly at his school.”

He will also be receiving a $1,000 savings bond.
