MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Women in Memphis will soon have another option when it comes to health services and having babies delivered.

Choices Center for Reproductive Health is planning on opening a new center on Poplar Avenue.

Memphis mothers typically have the option to give birth in a hospital or with a midwife at home, but there will soon be a choice that fits right in the middle.

"If I would've been able to have that option, I absolutely would," said Christiana Leibovich, a Planned Parenthood Board member and Memphis mom.

Choices is opening a health facility that'll have three birthing suites with a midwife.

The rooms will have kitchenettes, tubs and a feel of comfort.

They told WREG future moms will have control over how they give birth.

"It's something women across the country are beginning to request and actually demand in their communities," said Rebecca Terrell, Choices' executive director.

The facility is also going to be the first non-profit comprehensive women's health center of its kind in the country.

They'll offer everything from mental health services to abortion services.

"I think any time we can give women more options to have the birth they need or the healthcare they want, I think everybody wins," said Leibovich.

Currently, Choices' organization leaders are in the planning stages of the new center.

They have a fundraising goal of $3 million and hope to open the center by 2018.

"It's just going to bring a whole new range of options to the community," said Terrell.

The group is currently working with an architect and writing grants to make this center come to life.
