Traffic stop nets 18-wheeler loaded with $4.7 million worth of marijuana

RICHLAND, Miss. — A man from Tampa is behind bars after officers discovered millions of dollars worth of drugs in the back of the 18-wheeler he was driving.

According to WLBT, 45-year-old Junier Garmenate was pulled over Sunday night on Highway 49 South for careless driving.

They said during the traffic stop, Garmenate began acting suspiciously.

It was during a search of the tractor trailer authorities discovered 8 large garbage bags filled with marijuana.

Together, the bags weighed more than 525 pounds and had a street value of $4.7 million.

Also inside the trailer was more than $1,000 in cash.

Carmenate was charged with possession and taken to the Rankin County Jail.
