Toddler dies in Mississippi patrol car; mother on leave
HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. — Two police officers are on leave after a toddler died in a Mississippi patrol car.
The 3-year-old child who died is the daughter of one of the officers.
Officer Cassie Barker, of the Long Beach Police Department, is the mother of Cheyenne Hyer.
The car was running with the air conditioning turned on, according to the Sun Herald.
The child was reportedly left in the car for four hours while her mother “visited” with a male officer, who did not know the child was in the car.
The newspaper reports the mother previously temporarily lost custody of the same child.
