RIPLEY, Tenn. -- A Ripley police officer has been arrested.

Stephen Kirkpatrick has posted bail at the Lauderdale County Jail.

Kirkpatrick is charged with possession of drugs with intent to sell.

He's also charged with official misconduct and simple possession of drugs.

The city attorney confirmed Kirkpatrick is suspended without pay pending outcome of investigation.

He first became a reserve officer in 2009.

During his time as a reserve officer, criminal charges were brought against him and he was relieved of duty without pay.

However, his record has been expunged of those charges, according to the clerk's office.

He was officially relieved from the reserves in 2011 due to inactivity, rather than the charges.

Kirkpatrick later rejoined the force and has been a full-time officer since 2014.

The Lauderdale County District Attorney D. Mike Dunavant released the following statement:

This office cannot comment at this time about any specific case that was considered by the Lauderdale County Grand Jury on Monday, October 3. Any and all defendants who were charged by indictment yesterday will be scheduled for arraignment on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 9:30 a.m., in the Lauderdale County Circuit Court. After all new indictments have been served, this office and the Lauderdale County Circuit Court Clerk will release information regarding those new cases as a matter of public record.
