MEMPHIS, Tenn. –Fifty-five years ago Memphis City Schools were desegregated by 13 students.

Bruce, Gordon, Rozelle, and Springdale elementary schools were the first to see black students in their hallways.

Their attendance on October 3, 1961, ended nearly 100 years of segregation in the city.

A special program looking back at that historic day will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Bruce Elementary School.
