Man arrested for $30,000 crime spree at 11 stores

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A Memphis man is facing a long list of charges after police say he went on a four-month crime spree targeting dollar stores across the city.

Devin Merriweather, 28, is facing ten counts of burglary and 29 counts of theft of property.

spree-mapPolice say the crime spree began on May 21st at a Dollar General store on Lamar Ave. and ended on September 20th at a Dollar General Store on Getwell Rd.

According to the affidavit, there were 16 separate theft cases involving 11 stores and more than $30,000 in stolen items.

The single largest theft case happened at Dollar General at 6399 East Raines Rd. where Merriweather is accused of stealing $11,000 in cigarettes.

Merriweather is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Thursday.
