SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. -- The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is working to identify suspects after a deadly shooting in southeast Shelby County.

Deputies say Marnesha Scales, 19,  was shot and killed around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday outside a home in the 5000 block of Arbor Lake Drive, which is near Riverdale and Shelby Drive.

Investigators say the woman was sitting in a car with two other people when the shooting happened.

"It's a quiet neighborhood," said Earle Farrell, spokesperson for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

"I don't think they lived in this neighborhood. They were parked in the street and these individuals came up and started shooting," said Farrell.

Neighbors said they heard at least 15 shots and then saw a young man knocking on doors asking for help.

They say Scales, who was driving, crashed her vehicle into a fire hydrant, got out of the vehicle and fell on the ground.

She died at the scene.

Deputies say the other two people in the car weren't injured.

Deputies are asking anyone with information on this homicide to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
