Children scramble for cover as gunman opens fire at Boys & Girls Club

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Children at the Boys & Girls Club ducked for cover as a lone gunman opened fire Tuesday afternoon.

"I was nervous."

Little Rikera Myers told us she didn't know what was happening, but did know that her life was in danger.

"Me and my friends went in the cafeteria and the other kids went under the seat," she said.

A group of kids were outside playing when out of nowhere shots were fired.

"I seen a guy with a white shirt like he's pointing a gun. Next thing you know we heard shots," said Cedric Jones.

"I saw whomever got shot trying to run toward the Boys and Girls Club and then fell back down. That's how we knew somebody was shot," added Shelia Jones.

The Memphis Fire Department said a 26-year-old was shot and rushed to the hospital.

"Once the gunshots let off everybody just scattered out, ran." said Cednedra Jones.

While all this was happening, witnesses said they saw the gunman jump into a white, older model car.

They described him as a young man wearing a white shirt and beige pants.

The victim is expected to be okay.

Authorities told WREG there may have been a disturbance before the shooting.
