CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — Two boaters and their dog were found dead on their boat in Chickamauga Lake.

Officials believe carbon monoxide poisoning led to their death, but the cause is still under investigation, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

They had been reported missing after not being since since Saturday.

The TWRA and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department went to the lake to try to find the boaters.

They found the boat in a cove, but the two people and dog had died.

The TWRA identified the victims as Kristy D. James and Mike L. Richardson of Chattanooga.

According to the TWRA, since 2010 the lake has seen three previous cases of people dying from carbon monoxide poisoning, all of which involved a boat with an enclosed cabin.
