The wedding industry is getting bigger and bigger, but is it at the expense of the actual marriages?

A 2014 study by Andrew M. Francis and Hugo M. Mialon of Emory University suggests marriages tend to last longer if the couple spent less on the engagement ring and wedding.

The study is based on a survey of 3,000 people in the U.S. who are married or used to be married, excluding widows.

According to, an average wedding cost in 2013 a whopping $30,000.

You can’t put a price on love, but in the case of long-lasting love, it looks like that price is low.
