TBI investigating fatal officer involved shooting in Decatur County
DECATUR COUNTY, Tenn. — An armed robbery suspect is dead after trying to evade police early Tuesday morning.
According to The Jackson Sun, 35-year-old Charles Dove was killed after he reportedly robbed a Marathon gas station on Highway 641 near Interstate 40.
Roughly an hour later, officers spotted a stolen car that matched the suspect’s getaway vehicle.
TBI spokesperson Susan Niland said deputies set up a rolling roadblock to try to slow the suspect down, but Dove drove off the road and down an embankment.
It was at that time that an altercation ensued and the suspect was shot.
It’s unclear how many of those deputies opened fire or who shot first.
None of the deputies or the people inside the gas station during the robbery were injured.
A gun was recovered from Dove’s body.
The Jackson Sun reported Dove was also a suspect in an armed robbery at a liquor store in Jackson late Monday evening.
He stole the car Monday during a test drive in Lexington.
