Memphis duo sentenced in tax fraud scheme

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two Memphians were sentenced after pleading guilty to defrauding the government of thousands of dollars.

Kevin Gray and Mary Curtis pleaded guilty to the charges of willfully assisting in the preparation of fraudulent income tax returns back in May.

Gray was sentenced to 33 months behind bars and ordered to pay approximately $151,000 in restitution.

Curtis was given nine months of home detention and ordered to pay $105,000.

According to information presented in court, Curtis operated “Right Now Taxes” which the pair used to file the fraudulent returns.

The scheme lasted for approximately 4 years and garnered the duo more than $100,000.
