TSA discovers loaded handgun at Memphis International checkpoint
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The TSA has confirmed security officials discovered a loaded handgun at Memphis International Airport.
The Kel-Tec .32 caliber pistol was discovered around 10:30 a.m. Monday in a carry-on bag.
Police were immediately notified, and both the gun and passenger were removed from the checkpoint area.
“Passengers are responsible for the contents of bags they bring to the checkpoint,” said Mark Howell, TSA Regional Spokesperson. “Our advice is to look through bags thoroughly before coming to the airport to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items.”
This is the 25 gun to be discovered at the airport this year.
In 2015, a total of 28 were confiscated.
