Naked Trump statue will be auctioned off for charity
CLEVELAND, OH. — A life-size statue of Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump depicting the controversial candidate in the nude showed up in Coventry on Aug. 18. Now, at the request of the artist, it will be auctioned off for charity.
The statue was created by an artist who goes by Ginger. Ginger, who grew up in Garfield Heights, OH, is now based in Los Angeles and worked with anarchist collective INDECLINE to place the naked Trump statues in cities all over the country.
The statue was taken by the city and the artist was given 30 days to claim it. The city announced Friday that Ginger requested the statue be auctioned off, with proceeds going to benefit public art funding in the Coventry Special Improvement District and to establish funding at Heights Arts for future public art projects in Cleveland Heights.
Heights Arts will oversee the consignment sale or auction.
“When creating the pieces, it was important to me that the statue was to be placed in the Cleveland area,” Ginger said. “It’s exciting that my work can be used in this way to create lasting public art for the community where the statue was placed.”
Details on the auction will be announced in the next few weeks.
