Bolivar couple dead in apparent murder-suicide after police chase

BOLIVAR, Tenn. -- Two people are dead after an incident of domestic violence in Bolivar on Thursday morning followed by a police chase that ended in Chester County.

Bolivar Police identified the suspect as Johntate Thompson.

WREG's Luke Jones has learned the two were married but recently separated.

According to the police report, the victim, identified as Camille Thompson, was staying in Bolivar with her mother and four children when Johntate showed up at the home wanting to talk.

The woman and her mom were trying to take the kids to school, and so Camille reportedly refused.

They were on Pleasant Creek Lane in Bolivar when the man attempted to block in her car.

When she tried to drive around him, he shot her multiple times, police said.

Two kids were inside the car during the attack.

Then Camille's mother tried to run the man down with her car, but he pulled a gun on her.

He didn't fire.

It was at that point Johntate reportedly walked over Camille's vehicle and shot her several more times.

Afterward he left Bolivar, leading police on a chase to Chester County, where he killed himself at the dead end on Sandy Road, near Chickasaw State Park.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has confirmed they are assisting the Chester County Sheriff's Office at the scene.
