Missing 6-year-old NC girl found chained to tree, man in custody


NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. — A missing 6-year-old North Carolina girl has been found alive, tied to a tree according to WECT.

Douglas Edwards, 46, is in custody and charged with first-degree kidnapping, according to Sheriff Ed McMahon.

An Amber Alert was issued for Stefanny Lenneth Lopez-Castro Wednesday night and officials are awaiting an update on her condition after they found her chained to a tree in a wooded area.

A witness said he was flagged down Thursday morning while driving to work.

Officials said he gave them a battery-operated saw and they cut the girl free.
